A Unicorn in Your Room

11 Dec

Is there a unicorn in your room?

What I mean is… What puts you in your bliss?

It’s so easy to be pulled and distracted by all the things there are to do, the smorgasbord of delicious options, and, as a result, lose focus on what really turns you on.

You get overwhelmed.

But, think about it this way: Overwhelm can be flattened if you can hold the space for yourself that, in the present moment, there is only one task to handle.

It’s so easy to fall into this conversation about balance. Right?

How do you balance what you HAVE to do with what you WANT to do?

To me, the relevant question is: By your actions today, right now, who are you becoming?

Think about this: Who do you want to become?

In each moment, there is only the NOW. I know! I know! It sounds cliched.

But, seriously. What are you doing RIGHT NOW?

TELL ME: Today, just today, what is giving you the most juice?

It’s true, there’s really only one thing you can do right now. Numerous studies have shown that multitasking is mostly a myth – we’re really just rapidly switching from thing to thing. Multitasking is bad for our productivity even if it feels like it helps.

I think our minds are designed to handle one thing at a time yet we’ve forced multi-tasking; especially as women! I like to say that we can do multiple things at once…just not with excellence! What’s got me juiced up right now is my trip to Colorado to visit my sister!

I make sure I do the things I absolutely love to do and delegate the other tasks. I also am getting better at working on one big project at a time – like the twice a year Anxiety Summit that I host. The results are better – and I feel better and way less overwhelmed!
